From the desert setting of East Mesa evolved the concept for Mesa Community College at Red Mountain. Smart Community concepts combined with Native American tradition create a desert camp pattern. The heart of this campus is a riparian desert zone that will always be the campus center. It is ringed by the circle of lifein this case a two-level walkway. Four initial buildings plug in to this circle. They in turn, will anchor future additions so the campus can grow logically in phases but always adding to the initial concentric pattern and creating additional areas of protected desert within the ensuing development.
