Designed to take full advantage of a wooded site overlooking a stream, this 5,500 s.f. residence began construction in late 2000. The Parks Family enjoys growing plants and expressed a desire to display them as sculpture; the two-story living room windows provide a bright space for showcasing their indoor garden. Rooms are arranged on either side of a central circulation spine with private spaces on the north side and public areas to the south. Expansive glazing and large terraces along the south wall open views to the forested ravine, while the private spaces face a sun-filled courtyard serving as a childs play area. The use of local limestone and wood siding further ties the house to its site.
