In 1901 Frank Lloyd Wright was commissioned to design a home for Ward Willits and his growing family in Highland Park, Illinois. At the time Wright had just previously published two significant house plans in House Beautiful magazine entitled “A Small House with Lots of Room in It” and A Home in a Prairie Town.” The Willits House represents a built combination of these two projects and has been termed by historians as Wright’s first prairie style masterpiece.

Eifler & Associates was retained by the current owner, Milton Robinson to restore the home in 1986. Restoration work entailed roof restructuring, replacement of the front porch, reproduction and installation of missing art glass windows, and reworking of mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. The project received a restoration award from the Highland Park Historical Society in 1988, the Highland Park Preservation Commission in 1995, and the American Institute of Architects Distinguished Building Award in 2000. The structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Mr. Eifler is also responsible for placing the structure on the Illinois Preservation Agency’s list of state landmarks.
