After The Washington Capitals, Washington DC’s professional hockey team, received new owners, the organization required a new identity. STUDIOS’ goal was to design a headquarters that captured the feeling of hockey: icy, edgy, and intense. From the concrete floor in a hockey rink pattern to the twisting ceiling finish, the branded environment reminds everyone that hockey is “the coolest game on earth.” The reception and conference area divides the workspace into two parts. To take advantage of natural light, the ceiling was exposed around the perimeter. The workstations are surrounded by a sloping drywall partition to decrease the sound from the ticket sales group and other office departments. In order to pull the hockey feel into the general workspace, offices have etched glass perimeter walls that are a facsimile of skate marks on ice.
