Kideney Architects partnered with the State University Construction Fund and SUNY Fredonia to develop the facility program and conceptual design options for a multi-use facility to serve the College's residential community. The resulting University Commons combines housing, food service and retail operations under one roof and makes the facility a highly energized center of activity on campus. A new addition encompasses 76,300 SF, and the renovated portion is 18,000 SF.
Design features include: 124 beds for students, guests and faculty Replacement of the building's roof, windows and mechanical system. LEED design criteria to ensure appropriate response to energy & environmental issues A card access system to provide a convenient and secure link between the residential and public areas. Conversion of a traditional cafeteria into a Marché-style venue. Design of a 250-seat dining room. Renovation of the first floor to provide a café and convenience store.
In addition to serving as "home" for students during the academic year, the multi-use facility is ideal for summer conference programs, enabling the Campus to realize income from the facility during the entire year.
