A 2,000 square foot vacation home designed for a couple with a Dutch heritage, who wanted to return back to the area where they grew up as children. Located in Holland, Michigan the home is sited on a primary sand dune overlooking Lake Michigan. This beach front environment consisting of sand, trees, and water, inpired the colorful paint scheme on the exterior as well as the interior of the home. The bright colors were also reminiscent of the colorful vacation cottages which have dotted the Lake Michigan shoreline. The house is designed to provide views from as many rooms as possible all while maintaining a light and airy feel on the interior, A second floor balcony provides a viewing platform to the living room below as well as to the lake and horizon beyond. A palette of tile, carper and green stained wood trim is used on the interior.
